Matariki star

Pōhutukawa is the star that reminds us of the people who have passed away. It helps us remember our loved ones who are no longer with us. During Matariki, we think about them and keep their memories in our hearts. This star is special because it connects us to the past and reminds us how important our whānau are, even if they are gone.

The Gift of Matariki

One cold winter morning, I woke up early and looked up at the sky. There they were the Matariki stars, glowing brightly like tiny diamonds scattered across the dark blanket of Ranginui. The frost-covered grass crunched under my feet as I stepped outside, my breath floating like steam in the icy air.

Suddenly, something magical happened. A soft wind whispered through the trees, and the stars shimmered even brighter. I heard a gentle voice calling my name. I turned and saw a glowing figure, cloaked in starlight, smiling at me.

“I am one of the Matariki,” she said. “You have shown kindness to your whānau and care for the land. Now we give you a gift.”

She reached out and placed a small, glowing stone in my hand. It felt warm, like a hug on a cold day. The moment I touched it, I saw flashes of memories—laughing with my cousins, helping Nana cook kai, planting trees with Dad.

Then the figure faded, and the stars returned to their quiet twinkle. I stood there, heart full of wonder, knowing that Matariki had shared something special with me: a reminder that the magic of the stars lives in our love, memories, and care for each other.

Volcano

My partner and I made this with shapes, lines, and polylines on a google draw.

This is the meanings of the words:

Ash – the powdery residue left after the burning of a substance.

Lava – hot molten or semi-fluid rock erupted from a volcano or fissure, or solid rock resulting from cooling of this.

Magma- molten rock material within the earth.

Crater -a landform consisting of a hole or depression on a planetary surface, usually caused either by an object hitting the surface, or by geological activity on the planet.

Secondary vent-a smaller outlet on the side of a volcano where magma escapes.

Main vent- the central opening at the top of the volcano where magma and gases erupt.

What are shapegrams?

Today for Cybersmart, I made shapegrams  on a Google drawing. We used stuff like keyboard shortcuts and shapes.

First, we started to watch a video made by a man named Tony. It was a tutorial on how to make a house with shapes.

After that, we custiomized it and added some personlization to make our Google drawing interesting and fun.

Then, when we were finished we got to draw with shapes, lions, an Ice-Cream, and a emoji face.

Next, I added all of them into a Google draw and used my imagination to create this drawing with shapes.

Finally I blogged. I enjoyed this task but mostly the Ice cream one because it was fun with the strawberries.

I learnt what shapegrams are. For the keyboard shortcuts and stuff, we used

  • Shift to give the shapes a little nudge
  • Ctrl d to duplacate
  • shapes on a Google draw
  • colors on the shapes

I would recommend this activities because it was easy to make shapegrams and learn new things.
